Dog-friendly Things to Do in Dorset

Bringing your dog to Dorset isn’t just about finding somewhere that allows them to stay, it’s about knowing what to do once you’re here.

We’ve explored this stretch of coastline and countryside with muddy paws beside us for years. We know which beaches are relaxed in summer, which coastal paths feel quieter, which pubs genuinely welcome dogs rather than tolerate them, and which attractions are worth your time.

Personally Recommended

We’ve shared our favourite:

All based on places we’ve visited ourselves — often with children in tow. Because the best Dorset breaks are the ones everyone enjoys, paws included. And when you’re staying in one of our dog-friendly holiday cottages in Dorset, that ease begins the moment you arrive.

Whether it’s an early morning beach walk, an afternoon exploring Corfe Castle, or ending the day at a pub where the dog gets a bowl of water without you having to ask, Dorset makes days like that easy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many dogs can we bring?

Each of our dog-friendly cottages welcomes up to two dogs. We’ve chosen properties with enough space for everyone to feel comfortable, including dogs. If you wish to bring more than two dogs, please do get in touch and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Are dogs allowed upstairs or on the beds?

House rules vary slightly between cottages, so we recommend checking the individual property details. In most cases, we simply ask that dogs are kept off beds and soft furnishings unless throws are used, and that cottages are left as you’d hope to find them. Some of our properties include a stair gate.

Do the cottages have enclosed gardens?

Many of our pet-friendly cottages in Dorset have enclosed or partially enclosed gardens, though this does vary. If this is important to you, the garden details are clearly listed on each property page.

Are there dog-friendly beaches and walks nearby?

Yes. Dorset is one of the easiest places in the UK to holiday with a dog. There are dog-friendly beaches, coastal paths and woodland walks throughout the county all year round. We’ve shared our favourite beaches and dog walks in Dorset to help you plan.

Are there dog-friendly pubs and places to visit?

Absolutely. Many local pubs genuinely welcome dogs, and several attractions do too. We’ve shared our favourite dog-friendly pubs and attractions in Dorset, so you know exactly where to go

Is there an extra charge for bringing a dog?

Some cottages have a small additional charge per dog to cover extra cleaning between stays. Any fees are clearly listed on each property page before booking.
