Discover Riverside Walks, Kayaking, and Summer Evenings by the Quay
The River Frome flows through Wareham before reaching Poole Harbour, so most activities to explore focus on the water. Kayaking and paddleboard hire are available on the river during the summer. When our children were younger, we often hired small motorboats from the quay; just don’t expect to reach Poole, as it would take hours.

Walking is also easy. The river path and the circuit around the town walls are both gentle, dog-friendly routes. For something even slower, the Wareham Quay River Cruise is worth exploring, and in the summer they offer sunset cruises and options to watch firework displays from Poole Quay, usually every Thursday during the season. Additionally, Wareham Wednesdays bring live music and a lively atmosphere to the quay during the summer.
For cyclists and walkers, Wareham Forest’s Sika Trail is a favourite. Our children loved it because it’s safe, traffic-free, and surrounded by woodland. And for golfers, Wareham Golf Club is a great choice; we’ve played there many times. The back nine is challenging, but there are stunning views across the Purbeck countryside.
