Exploring Dorset’s Coast from a Dorchester Base

Dorchester may be inland, but if you’re staying in one of our Dorchester Cottages you can easily reach the coast. Within twenty minutes, you can be standing on the sand, walking along a pebble shore, or looking out across one of Dorset’s most iconic bays.

Weymouth Beach is the closest and often the first choice. It’s a wide, sandy stretch perfect for families and for paddleboarding and kayaking in a shallow, calm bay. If you prefer something quieter, Ringstead Bay offers a more natural feel, while Castle Cove, tucked away, feels like a hidden corner many visitors miss.

Chesil Beach, part of the UNESCO‑listed Jurassic Coast, is also within easy reach. Its sweeping pebble shore is dramatic in every season and ideal for long coastal walks. A little further along the coast, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door offer some of England’s most recognisable coastal scenery.
