Weymouth Eating Out: Harbour Tables, Seafood and Local Favourites
Weymouth’s food scene is earning recognition, with harbourside eateries, independent kitchens, and seafood restaurants. If you’re staying in one of our Weymouth Cottages, start at the harbour. It transforms beautifully throughout the day. Enjoy coffee while watching boats in the morning, relax with waterside lunches, and in the evening, watch quay lights shimmer across the harbour walls.

The Catch at the Old Fish Market remains one of our favourites for something special: locally sourced seafood and a superb wine list. For a more laid-back experience, harbour pubs like The Ship Inn serve classic menus. Along the seafront, if you want Italian with a view, both Oliveto and Enzo’s overlook the bay. But if you prefer a relaxed vibe, you can simply enjoy fish and chips on the beach or by the harbour. Here, Bennetts is one we always recommend.
Just outside town, two longstanding favourites of ours are The Crab House Café, renowned for exceptional local fish dishes overlooking Chesil Beach, and Billy Winters, a relaxed beachside spot on the edge of Portland with a menu that suits every season.
Frequently Asked Questions
For refined seafood, The Catch is widely regarded as one of Weymouth’s best restaurants. For relaxed pub food, The Ship Inn is a reliable choice. Bennett’s remains the classic for fish and chips, while The Crab House Café and Billy Winters are both favourites for waterside dining slightly outside the centre.
Weymouth Harbour is one of the most atmospheric places to dine. The Catch, The Ship Inn and Quayside sit directly on the quay, with smaller cafés and bistros tucked between them. In the evening, especially, harbour dining feels quietly special without being overly formal.
In town, The Ship Inn and The Red Lion in Brewery Square are both solid options. Just outside Weymouth, The Springhead at Sutton Poyntz and The Smugglers Inn at Osmington Mills are well worth the short drive for a countryside setting.
Yes, many seafront and harbour restaurants are relaxed and welcoming. Sticks & Bones in Brewery Square offers casual pub-style food alongside retro arcade and board games, keeping younger diners happily occupied.
