There’s something special about eating by Weymouth Harbour.

Perhaps it’s watching the fishing boats unload the day’s catch while you enjoy seafood that may well have been landed just hours earlier. Maybe it’s sitting outside on a warm summer evening with a glass of wine as the harbour comes alive with people strolling along the quayside. Or perhaps it’s simply the atmosphere. Colourful cottages reflected in the water, yachts gently bobbing at their moorings, and the buzz of one of Dorset’s most beautiful waterfronts.

Over the years, we’ve spent countless afternoons, evenings and weekends wandering around Weymouth Harbour. If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that this is one of the best places in Dorset to eat.

From Michelin Guide dining and award-winning fish and chips to hidden cafés that many visitors walk straight past, there’s something here for every occasion. Whether you’re celebrating a special anniversary, grabbing a relaxed lunch, or looking for somewhere to watch the sunset with fresh seafood, you’re spoilt for choice.

This isn’t simply a list of restaurants. These are the places we genuinely return to, the ones we recommend to friends and family, and the restaurants we’d happily revisit time and again.

Catch at the Old Fish Market – Our Favourite Restaurant for a Special Occasion

If we’re celebrating something special, we almost always book here.

Located right on the historic harbour, Catch at the Old Fish Market has earned an outstanding reputation and is the only restaurant in Weymouth featured in the Michelin Guide. The Telegraph’s food critic, William Sitwell, famously described his experience as “a few steps above heaven”. After several memorable meals here, it’s difficult to disagree.

The setting alone makes it worth visiting. Housed in the beautifully restored Old Fish Market, you’re surrounded by the harbour’s maritime heritage as you enjoy some of the finest food in Dorset.

Everything feels like a dining experience, from beautifully presented dishes featuring locally landed seafood to an excellent wine list that complements the menu. The emphasis is firmly on seasonal Dorset produce.

For us, this is somewhere to savour. It isn’t rushed, and it shouldn’t be. It’s an experience you won’t regret trying, and you’ll want to taste it again. 

Don’t Miss The Hatch

During the warmer months, Catch opens The Hatch, a wonderfully relaxed seafood takeaway overlooking the harbour. The Hatch is not opening for 2026, however it’s worth checking on the official website to see when it will reopen.

We absolutely love this concept.

Instead of formal dining, you’ll find freshly prepared seafood street food served straight from the waterfront. Everything is made from scratch with locally caught Dorset fish and shellfish, offering one of the most enjoyable casual lunches you’ll find anywhere along the Jurassic Coast.

On a sunny afternoon, it’s hard to beat sitting on the harbour wall, enjoying fresh seafood while watching fishing boats return with their catch.

Perfect for: Special occasions, exceptional seafood, relaxed summer lunches, and couples seeking something memorable.

Bennett’s Fish & Chips – A Weymouth Classic

No visit to Weymouth Harbour feels complete without fish and chips at least once, and for us there’s only one place we keep returning to.

Bennett’s Fish & Chips has been a fixture on the harbour for decades and remains one of the town’s best-loved institutions. It’s not just popular with locals, it was previously recognised by The Times as the sixth-best fish and chip shop in the UK. After eating here more times than we can count, we certainly understand why.

The fish is always beautifully flaky, the batter wonderfully crisp without being greasy, and the chips are exactly what you’d expect from a traditional seaside fish-and-chip shop.

You can eat inside if the weather turns, but for us, that’s missing the point of the experience.

Our favourite spot is finding a seat along the harbour wall, watching the fishing boats come and go as we enjoy fish and chips overlooking the water. It feels quintessentially Weymouth and is one of those simple pleasures we never tire of.

One word of warning, though. The local seagulls know exactly where the best fish and chips are served. They’re remarkably confident, so keep a close eye on your supper unless you’re happy to share it.

Curated Cottages Tip: Pick up your fish and chips before sunset, then enjoy them overlooking the harbour as the evening light reflects off the colourful waterside buildings. It’s one of our favourite ways to spend a summer evening.

Bonita Pasta Club – Fresh Italian Food with Mediterranean Charm

One of our newer discoveries has quickly become one of our favourite finds.

Nestled along the harbour, Bonita Pasta Club brings a little slice of Italy to Weymouth, and each visit reminds us why authentic, freshly made pasta is so hard to beat.

The first thing you’ll notice is the atmosphere. On a warm day, tables spill out onto the quayside, creating a relaxed al fresco dining experience where you can watch the harbour quietly go about its business.

If you’re lucky enough to secure one of the tables by the front window, you’ll enjoy uninterrupted views across the harbour while soaking up the lively atmosphere outside.

Inside, the restaurant feels warm, welcoming and unmistakably Mediterranean. It’s cosy without feeling cramped, striking the perfect balance between relaxed and stylish.

The real star, however, is the food.

Fresh pasta is made daily, and you can genuinely taste the difference. Every dish feels lovingly prepared, with simple, high-quality ingredients allowed to speak for themselves.

Whatever you do, leave room for dessert.

Their homemade tiramisu has become something of a signature, with several flavours available depending on what’s being served. 

Bona Pasta has quickly become one of those restaurants we happily recommend whenever friends ask us where they should eat in Weymouth.

Rice & Sail – One of Weymouth Harbour’s Rising Stars

Although a relatively new addition to Weymouth Harbour’s food scene, Rice & Sail has rapidly built an excellent reputation. And it’s easy to see why.

Set within the beautifully restored Custom House overlooking the harbour, it combines stylish surroundings with genuinely impressive food.

We’ve visited several times now, and each time we’ve come away wondering why it took us so long to discover it.

The menu draws inspiration from Asian flavours while making excellent use of fresh local produce, resulting in dishes that feel both familiar and a little different from those of many of the harbour’s seafood-focused restaurants.

There’s outdoor seating overlooking the harbour, making it an ideal place to enjoy lunch or dinner on a sunny day, while the historic building itself provides a characterful and contemporary setting.

It’s become one of our favourite recommendations for anyone looking to try something slightly different without sacrificing the quality Weymouth Harbour has become known for.

If you’ve never visited before, we’d definitely recommend adding it to your list.

Les Enfants Terribles – French Bistro Dining by the Harbour

Tucked away towards the Pavilion end of Weymouth Harbour is one of the harbour’s most elegant restaurants.

Les Enfants Terribles has built an outstanding reputation over the years, and it’s easy to see why it continues to attract loyal diners.

This charming French bistro feels intimate, making it another of our favourite choices for birthdays, anniversaries, or any occasion when you’re looking for somewhere a little more special.

Inside, you’ll find a warm, contemporary interior with plenty of character, while the small outdoor seating area is ideal in the warmer months.

If possible, try to request a table by the window.

Looking out over Weymouth Harbour while enjoying beautifully prepared French-inspired dishes makes for a memorable dining experience.

The menu changes regularly to reflect seasonal ingredients, and the attention to detail shines through in every course. Service is always welcoming without ever feeling overly formal, creating a relaxed yet refined atmosphere.

For anyone looking to enjoy one of Weymouth’s finest dining experiences, this is somewhere we would happily recommend.

Quayside Bar & Kitchen – Relaxed Dining with One of the Best Harbour Views

If we’re looking for somewhere to enjoy a long, relaxed meal on a summer evening, Quayside Bar & Kitchen is usually near the top of our list.

Positioned right on the harbour, it’s one of those restaurants where it’s just as easy to spend two hours chatting over dinner as it is to pop in for lunch while exploring Weymouth.

The outdoor seating is one of its biggest attractions. On a warm day, it’s a fantastic place to watch the harbour come to life as fishing boats head out, yachts drift past, and people wander along the quayside.

The menu offers something for everyone, although, as you’d expect from a restaurant overlooking a working harbour, seafood features prominently. Alongside fresh local fish, you’ll find burgers, steaks, salads and plenty of lighter options, making it a great choice when everyone in the group fancies something different.

We’ve visited on sunny afternoons and warm summer evenings, and it’s one of those places where the setting is as memorable as the food.

If you enjoy people-watching with a glass of wine while soaking up the harbour atmosphere, it’s hard to beat.

The Ship Inn – A Historic Harbour Pub We Return to Throughout the Year

There are plenty of pubs around Weymouth Harbour, but The Ship Inn is one we find ourselves returning to in every season.

During autumn and winter, it’s particularly inviting. The centuries-old building has a wonderfully cosy atmosphere, making it the perfect place to escape after a windswept walk along the coast or around Nothe Fort.

However, in the summer it transforms completely.

Outdoor tables overlooking the harbour make it a brilliant spot for lunch or an early-evening meal while watching the boats gently bob along the quayside.

The menu is everything you’d hope for from a quality Dorset pub. Generous pub classics and seasonal specials.

Our favourite?

Without hesitation, the award-winning Tangle Foot Pie is the one.

It’s one of those comforting dishes we almost always order when we visit, and if you’ve never tried it, we’d highly recommend it.

Perfect for: Traditional pub food, cosy winter meals, outdoor summer dining and local ales.

The George Bar & Grill – Lively, Friendly and Full of Atmosphere

If you’re looking for somewhere with a little more energy, The George Bar & Grill is a great choice.

Situated right on the harbour, it’s one of the liveliest places to eat in Weymouth, particularly in the summer months, when outdoor tables quickly fill with visitors and locals alike.

The atmosphere is what really makes it.

It’s vibrant without being overwhelming and often features live music, creating a fantastic backdrop for enjoying dinner while overlooking the harbour.

The menu is extensive, making it an excellent choice for families or groups where everyone fancies something different.

You’ll find everything from steaks and burgers to traditional fish and chips, fajitas, seafood dishes, and lighter meals.

It’s one of those reliable restaurants where you know everyone will find something they’ll enjoy.

EBIKE Café – One of Our Favourite Harbour Brunch Spots

Not every meal has to be a long lunch or an evening dinner.

Sometimes you’re simply looking for great coffee, healthy food and somewhere relaxing to sit with a view of the harbour.

That’s exactly why we love EBIKE Café.

Housed in one of Weymouth Harbour’s beautiful historic buildings, this bright and welcoming café has become one of our favourite places for breakfast, brunch or a relaxed lunch.

Whenever we’re after something lighter, we usually head here.

The focus here is firmly on health and wellbeing, with an excellent menu featuring smoothie bowls, fresh salads, brunch favourites, sandwiches, wraps, homemade cakes and coffee.

There’s plenty of seating inside, but whenever the weather allows, we always try to grab one of the outdoor tables overlooking the harbour.

Watching the boats drift past while enjoying brunch on a sunny morning is a lovely way to begin the day.

It also works brilliantly whether you’ve hired bikes or are exploring Weymouth on foot, offering a welcome stop before continuing along the harbour towards Nothe Fort or the beach.

If you enjoy relaxed cafés rather than formal restaurants, we’d highly recommend adding this one to your itinerary.

The Red Lion – A Historic Harbour Pub Full of Character

Cross the Town Bridge towards Hope Square, and you’ll find one of Weymouth’s best-known pubs.

The Red Lion has welcomed locals and visitors for generations and remains one of our favourite places to stop after exploring this quieter side of the harbour.

Situated opposite the historic Brewers Quay, it’s ideally placed for a day spent exploring Nothe Fort or the southern end of Weymouth Harbour.

Historically known as the “Lifeboatman’s Pub”, The Red Lion proudly celebrates its maritime heritage. Inside, you’ll find historic photographs, RNLI memorabilia and fascinating local artefacts that tell the story of Weymouth’s rich seafaring past. It’s one of those pubs that feels completely different depending on the season.

During winter, we love its cosy atmosphere, candlelit tables and roaring fire. In summer, however, it’s the outdoor seating in Hope Square that keeps drawing us back. On sunny weekends, there’s often live music outside, creating a fantastic atmosphere that’s hard to leave once you’ve settled in.

The menu offers everything you’d expect from a quality Dorset gastro pub, including fresh local seafood, hearty pies, steaks and excellent fish and chips.

If we’re walking around Nothe Fort or the harbour, we often finish the afternoon there.

Perfect for: Historic pubs, seafood, traditional British cooking, summer evenings and post-walk lunches.

Stick & Bones – Great Food with a Fun Twist

Directly opposite The Red Lion is something completely different.

Stick & Bones combines good food with something you don’t often find in a restaurant – entertainment.

Alongside a varied menu of burgers, pizzas, loaded fries and pub favourites, you’ll find retro arcade machines, classic video games and board games, making it a brilliant choice for families, groups of friends or anyone looking for something a little different.

We’ve always enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere here as well.

It doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is exactly its charm.

The outdoor seating is perfect in summer, while inside there’s always something happening, making it an excellent option if the weather isn’t cooperating.

If you’re visiting Weymouth with older children or teenagers, it’s somewhere we’d definitely recommend.

Perfect for: Families, teenagers, casual dining, burgers, pizzas and rainy-day fun.

Stone Pier Café – One of Weymouth’s Best Hidden Gems

If we had to choose one place that many visitors overlook, it would probably be Stone Pier Café.

Tucked away at the very end of Weymouth Harbour, beyond the RNLI Lifeboat Station and the rowing club, it’s worth making the short walk just for the views.

Keep following the harbour until you reach the historic stone pier, when the scenery suddenly opens up.

Looking back towards Weymouth, you’ll enjoy wonderful views across the bay, with the white cliffs around Nothe standing proudly in the distance and boats coming and going through the harbour entrance.

It’s one of our favourite places to escape the busier parts of town.

The café itself serves freshly prepared homemade food, excellent lunches, generous cakes and really good coffee.

If there’s one thing we’d encourage you to try, it’s their Dorset apple cake. It’s one of the best we’ve tasted anywhere in the county.

In the summer, Friday evenings are particularly special. The café hosts themed evenings with live music, creating a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere that’s unlike anywhere else in Weymouth.  

Perfect for: Hidden gems, lunches, homemade cakes, sunsets and spectacular coastal views.
