West Bay is one of Dorset’s most recognisable coastal destinations, famous for its dramatic Jurassic Coast cliffs, working harbour, golden beaches and its starring role in the hit ITV series Broadchurch. Located on the stunning West Dorset coastline, West Bay combines traditional seaside character with beautiful coastal scenery, waterside dining and easy access to the surrounding countryside.
From relaxing harbour walks and fresh seafood restaurants to fossil hunting along the Jurassic Coast and exploring nearby Bridport, West Bay is ideal for couples, families, walkers and dog-friendly coastal breaks throughout the year.
Although we don’t currently have any properties in West Bay, it’s an area we know well and are looking to expand our collection of luxury holiday cottages in this coastal resort. However, West Bay is just about a 40-minute drive from our Weymouth and Dorchester holiday cottages.

Absolutely. West Bay offers one of the best selections of places to eat on the Jurassic Coast, with everything from traditional pubs and cafés to seafood restaurants and harbour-side dining. Our personal favourites include Rise, tucked beside the River Brit with excellent food and a relaxed atmosphere, and The Watch House. If we’re after something more traditional, it’s hard to beat fish and chips from Harbour Lights enjoyed down by the harbour or beach.

Yes. West Bay became internationally recognised as the main filming location for the ITV drama Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman. The dramatic cliffs and harbour feature throughout the series. The harbour was also the filming location for the BBC drama, Harbour Lights, starring former Eastenders and Heartbeat actor Nick Berry.
Yes. Dogs are allowed on parts of West Bay beach throughout the year, with some seasonal restrictions in place during summer months. The surrounding coast paths and nearby beaches also make the area popular for dog friendly scenic walks.
