What we love most about Abbotsbury is how it feels like a village from another time. Wander the narrow streets lined with honey-coloured stone cottages, and it’s easy to imagine you’ve stepped into the pages of an Agatha Christie novel. The village is steeped in history, yet it never feels like an open-air museum.
We have many happy family memories here. Our children loved exploring Abbotsbury’s Subtropical Gardens and Swannery, and today we find ourselves returning for the walks, the views and the village itself. The climb to St Catherine’s Chapel is always worth it, rewarding you with spectacular views across Chesil Beach and the Fleet Lagoon. One of our favourite additions in recent years has been the Chesil Beach Café. Set just back from the beach, it’s the perfect place to stop for coffee, lunch or one of their famous crab sandwiches after a coastal walk.
For us, Abbotsbury captures everything we love about West Dorset. History, coastline, countryside, and some of the county’s most memorable views, all wrapped up in one remarkable village.
