If you’re exploring Dorset from one of our Dorset holiday cottages, West Bay has an impressive food scene for a harbour of its size. What makes it special is the setting. Many of the cafés, pubs and restaurants line the harbour, overlooking the sea or just a short stroll from the beach. Whether you’re looking for fresh seafood, a relaxed lunch after a coastal walk, traditional fish and chips, or somewhere special for dinner, you’ll find plenty of choice here.
One of our personal favourites is Rise. Tucked beside the River Brit and just back from the harbour, it offers a slightly different atmosphere from many of the waterfront venues. The food is excellent, and the setting and restaurant interior are really impressive. For something completely different, The Station Kitchen is well worth a visit. Set inside beautifully restored railway carriages, it offers one of the most unique dining experiences in Dorset. The food has earned an excellent reputation over the years, and the setting makes it feel like a real occasion rather than simply a meal out.

Another favourite of ours is The Watch House. Owned by the same team behind Hive Beach Café in Burton Bradstock and The Club House at West Bexington, it offers excellent food in a fantastic harbour-side setting. We particularly enjoy stopping here for pizza after a coastal walk, though the seafood and seasonal dishes are equally tempting.
Of course, no guide to eating in West Bay would be complete without mentioning fish and chips. One of our favourite traditions is picking up fish and chips from Harbour Lights and then wandering down to the beach or the harbour wall to enjoy them while watching the boats come and go. Sometimes the simplest meals are the most memorable.
Beyond the restaurants, you’ll also find plenty of independent cafés, ice-cream parlours and traditional pubs scattered around the harbour and village. It’s one of the reasons West Bay works so well for families, couples and groups alike..
