Bran Point
Bran Point is one of Dorset’s best-kept secrets and, in our opinion, one of the most overlooked beaches along this stretch of the Jurassic Coast. Hidden just beyond Ringstead Bay, it’s the kind of place many people walk straight past without ever realising it’s there.
From the South West Coast Path, there’s little to suggest a secluded beach lies below. But leave the main path, follow the wooden steps down the cliff, and you’ll discover a peaceful cove that feels untouched. Surrounded by distinctive reddish cliffs, with clear water and uninterrupted coastal views, Bran Point has an almost private feel that’s increasingly rare.
Unlike many of Dorset’s better-known beaches, there are no cafés, kiosks or busy promenades here. Just the sound of the sea, the cliffs, and a beautiful stretch of coastline where it’s easy to spend a few quiet hours away from the crowds.

Why We Love Bran Point
Bran Point has become one of our favourite spots along the Dorset coast.
It’s somewhere we’ve discovered over years of walking between Ringstead Bay and Osmington Mills, and every time we pass, we still find ourselves making the short detour down to the beach.
There’s something wonderfully satisfying about leaving the coastal path, following the wooden steps and suddenly finding yourself somewhere that feels completely hidden from the outside world. Although it’s only a few minutes from Ringstead Bay, it somehow feels much further away.
When we’re walking with Smarty from the Reef Café and its car park, this is often one of our favourite stopping points before continuing to The Smugglers Inn. We’ll pause for a while, watch the waves, let Smarty explore the shoreline, and then continue along the cliffs towards Osmington.
On warmer days, we’ll often come here just to spend the day by the sea. It’s noticeably quieter than many of Dorset’s better-known beaches, and because relatively few people venture down from the coastal path, there are times when it genuinely feels as though you’ve discovered your own private cove.
The reddish cliffs surrounding the beach make it feel completely different from nearby Ringstead Bay. When the sea is calm, it’s a lovely place for a swim or simply to sit and enjoy the sound of the waves.
