Middle Beach
Middle Beach is situated just along the bay from the popular Knoll Beach at Studland and offers a more tranquil atmosphere. A short walk along the shoreline leads to a more sheltered part of the coast. Instead of the large sand dunes at Knoll Beach, Middle Beach is bordered by grassy cliffs and windswept trees, giving it a distinctive Purbeck landscape feel. Along the shoreline, you’ll also notice the quirky Knoll Bookshop beach hut, a well-known and often-photographed feature. Kayaks and paddleboards are available for hire at Fore Adventure, which also provides tours and sea snorkelling. There is also a new feature, just set back from the beach, a seaweed spa located in a beach hut. It receives rave reviews and is popular year-round.
Why We Love It
Middle Beach offers a different experience from the main Studland Beach. We often visit it when we want to relax, enjoy a quieter day at the beach, read a book, and immerse ourselves in the sea and sand.
Out of season, it’s particularly special and often ranks as one of our favourite dog-walking beaches. After a walk, we often stop at the Sandy Salt Pig in the Middle Beach car park. It’s a lovely little spot for coffee, drinks, and snacks with views of Old Harry Rocks from the clifftop, and the hammocks are perfect if you want to relax completely.
