Discover Chesil Beach and the Fleet Lagoon

Abbotsbury doesn’t have the traditional bucket-and-spade beach that many visitors expect. However, it does have are something far more distinctive. The village sits beside one of Britain’s most extraordinary stretches of coastline, Chesil Beach. Stretching 18 miles from West Bay to Portland, this vast shingle barrier beach forms part of Dorset’s UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast and creates the beautiful Fleet Lagoon that runs alongside it.

For us, this is one of the most beautiful parts of Dorset. Because unlike some of the county’s busier beaches, Abbotsbury feels unspoilt. You won’t find rows of beach huts or crowded promenades. Instead, you’ll find sweeping coastal views, rolling hills and countryside, and some of the best walking on the Dorset coast.

Some of our favourite things to do is wandering down to Chesil Beach or walk to the Club House Pub and Restaurant in Bexington. It takes about an hour and the views along the way make it very worthwhile.
